Why Llamas?

  • Llamas produce fiber which can be crafted into many things. Llama fiber contains no natural oils or lanolin which makes it lightweight and hypoallergenic. We take pride in the fact that our yarn is grown, shorn, and fully processed here in Alaska.

  • Llamas are sure-footed in the most difficult terrain and have a low impact on trails compared to traditional pack animals. Their padded feet do not have the same effect on the ground as hooves. Exploring Alaska’s backcountry is even more spectacular with llamas.

  • Llama manure is high in Nitrogen, Potassium, and Phosphorus when compared to other livestock manure. These nutrients are required by plants to grow. Llama manure can function as a great organic fertilizer or soil conditioner. While being high in nutrients, llama poop is low in organic matter when compared to the livestock manure. This means that the manure doesn’t “burn” plants and can be placed directly into a garden bed without having to be composted. It also smells far less offensive. In fact, many people say that it’s nearly odorless.

  • Llamas are generally friendly and inquisitive animals. They enjoy human interaction and are a joy to be around. Llamas are an alternative yet functional addition to any farm.

Llamas are often an over looked as a livestock animal. These graceful creatures have a wide variety of benefits for people looking to cultivate a self-sustainable lifestyle.
